Pet Registration and Census

A reminder that local ordinance requires all cats and dogs residing within Borough limits MUST be registered by April 1, 2012.  You may renew or register your pet at Borough Hall during normal business hours or register during our FREE Rabies Clinic on Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 1pm-3pm at Woolwich Fire House on Kings Highway.

State law requires communities to conduct a pet census every 2 years.  2012 is our census year.  Beginning in the next few weeks, letters will be placed on ALL residential doors in Swedesboro.  Please read the letter and follow directions provided by person conducting our pet census.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Support Eagle Scout Project

Soles 4 Souls LogoEagle Scout Badge

Vince Piro, a student at Salesianum School and a member of Boy Scout Troop 13, in Swedesboro, New Jersey, is currently in the process of completing his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project.  For this project, Vince will be collecting new and gently worn shoes for an organization by the name of Soles4Souls.  This organization distributes these shoes to families in need all around the world, but for this project all of the collected shoes will stay in New Jersey.  Any shoe can be donated just as long as the shoe is in new or gently worn condition.  If you have any shoes that you would like to donate, they can be dropped off at the Swedesboro Borough Hall in Swedesboro, New Jersey.

Thank you for helping Vince achieve his goal of Eagle Scout and supporting this great cause.

IMPORTANT 2012 UPDATES
FOR ALL RESIDENTS
AND BUSINESS OWNERS

Garbage/Recycling program:

Reminder: Trash/recycling collection is every Thursday. Bulk trash is the 1st Friday of every month. You must remember to call Borough Hall to be put on the list. E-Waste is the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month and again you must call Borough Hall to be put on the list for pick up. Leaf collection/yard waste is every Thursday during the months of March through November, the 1st and 2nd Thursday in December, and the 1st Thursday in January and February. Leaves/yard waste must be placed in a separate trash container (not your brown or blue can) or biodegradable bags.

Snow Removal:

Pursuant to Borough Code Section 100-1 through 100-4 property owners and/or tenants are required to remove all snow and ice from sidewalks within twelve (12) hours of daylight after a storm. If the Borough has to clear a sidewalk to ensure the safety of students walking to school or for general safety concerns the property owner will be billed for costs incurred and a lien will be placed on the property. In addition, the property owner could be issued a summons to appear in court and be subject to penalties.

Residents also need to make every effort to remove parked cars from streets to allow for efficient and thorough plowing of snow.

Grass cutting:

Property owners and/or tenants are required to maintain their grass. Grass is not to exceed 6” in length.

Water/Sewer Bills:

Reminder water/sewer bills are due on a quarterly basis 1/1, 4/1, 7/1, and 10/1 with a ten day grace period.

Tax Bills:

REMINDER:  First quarter taxes are due February 1, 2012, Second quarter taxes are due May 1, 2012, Third quarter taxes are due August 1, 2012, and Fourth quarter taxes are due November 1, 2012. All quarters have a ten day grace period before interest starts to accrue.

Please Note:  In lieu of mailing homestead rebate checks this year the State of New Jersey will be sending the credit amount directly to the municipality.  The municipality will then calculate an adjusted 1st quarter bill to credit those homeowners receiving rebates.

Water Restrictions:

Pursuant to Borough Code Section-114-40, between the months of April and October outside water usage must be on alternate days as designated by house or box number.  If your house number or box number is even, you may use water for an outside purpose on an even calendar day of the week. If your house number or box number is odd, you may use water on an odd calendar day of the week.  “Outdoor Water Usage” includes watering of lawns and plants, the filling of pools and the washing of cars.   Any person violating this regulation is subject to fines.  Your cooperation is appreciated.

Pet Licenses:

Please be advised dog/cat licenses are to be renewed on a yearly basis. Those who do not obtain their dog/cat license should do so prior to April 1, 2012 as the animal license will then be considered late and a late fee will be charged.

REMINDER:     In order to obtain a license the rabies vaccination must be good through 10/31/12.

Our annual Rabies clinic is scheduled for Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 1PM to 3:00 PM at the Firehouse.  Residents can bring their pets for a free rabies vaccination and also purchase their pet license at this time.

Rental Property Registration:

As a reminder, please be advised that Swedesboro has a Landlord Registration Ordinance that states that all rental units located in the Borough must obtain a registration license and undergo an inspection.  This is a yearly renewable license.  The registration fee is $75.00 for each unit that is licensed.  Failure to license a property will result in a summons to appear in court, additional fees and the property cannot be rented.  2012 registration forms went out to those already registered the week of 12/19/11, those who have not registered previously and need to do so may contact borough hall for instructions.

If at any time you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Borough between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 am and 7:00 pm on Monday, @856.467.0202.
